Pollution's effects are often subtle and delayed, making it difficult for affected communities to connect local pollution to immediate health issues. → influence ? → Health effects get averaged into regional statistics, so no community sees its own numbers.
I have seen that people often struggle to connect local pollution to immediate health issues, and that this can lead to a lack of action or awareness.
modérateur I've witnessed the frustration of communities trying to connect local health issues to pollution, despite the subtle and delayed effects.
<y, n or a>
I have seen that the subtle, delayed effects of pollution make it hard for communities to link local emissions to immediate health problems, and this difficulty is reflected in the averaging of health data into regional statistics.
In the models I run, aggregation into regional statistics is a methodological choice about scale, not a consequence of effects being delayed or subtle. Delayed effects make attribution harder, but they don't cause anyone to average harm across communities — that happens because of how the analysis is framed.
I see that because pollution effects are delayed, my neighbors don't connect their asthma to my shop, so regional stats are all we get.
I cannot say from here whether the statistical aggregation is a result of the delayed effects or a deliberate modeling choice. The modeler I know aggregates to make the numbers manageable, not because the effects are subtle. That is a choice, not an outcome.
When I present our sustainability data to stakeholders, they ask for specific local health impacts, but I can only provide regional aggregated statistics because that is how the models are built; the individual families are invisible in the numbers.
