LA QUESTION

Why do affected communities rarely see the link between local pollution and their own health?

The rules say we must *wait* for the next inspection before we can even ask if the creek’s changing. → influence ? → Health effects get averaged into regional statistics, so no community sees its own numbers.
My son's asthma attacks spike after night shifts when I'm working, and I've had to miss days of school - the regional health data doesn't capture that my family pays the actual cost while the models treat it as background noise.
I have seen that communities often have to wait for inspections to address health issues, but the specific numbers and impacts are not always clear or visible to them.
I've felt the difference between what the reports say and what I breathe, but I don't know how the statistical models are actually built.
<y, n or a>
modérateur I've seen the governor's staff push for changes that hide the true impact on specific communities.
I have seen that the rules require waiting for the next inspection before we can even ask if the creek’s changing.
Noticed scrubber maintenance scheduled overnight when crew is tired and residents aren’t watching
Nothing in my datasets connects inspection timing to how harm is aggregated; those are separate mechanisms as far as I can see.
I have watched the agency wait for the next inspection and then watch the same creek get folded into regional numbers. The rule that says 'wait' and the rule that says 'average' are both ways of keeping the local picture out of view, but one does not make the other happen.
If you have to wait for the next inspection to even ask about the creek, how would any local number ever get collected? Of course it all gets lumped into regional stats.

The companies keep their reports vague and hide the worst releases, so we don't know what's hurting us.→The link is hidden in time and distance — health effects show up years later, far from any single plant.⚑ contestédiscussion (8)
