Organisers: turn what everyone is angry about into demands with the causes behind them

A movement has a thousand grievances and no programme. Everyone knows what hurts; nobody agrees on why, and a demand without a cause behind it is easy to refuse: it reads as a mood, and moods are waited out.

True Causes turns the grievances into the group’s own analysis. Everyone writes causes alone and unnamed, so nobody has to speak for the room. Then the group judges, pair by pair, whether one cause significantly influences another, and a link counts only at three quarters of the votes. The roots are the demands. The actions, each judged against each root, are what to ask for first. The map goes on the desk of whoever can change things, with every link showing how it was settled.

Nobody has to run the whole of it. The question is the organiser: it is published, a room opens to anyone with an address at the place it concerns, and several rooms fold into one map. A week after it finishes the room forgets who sat in it, keeping only its steward’s name; the map, every judged pair, the actions and the predictions stay. That is what you bring back a year later, when the answer was “we will look into it”.
