I've had issues with fares and top-up machines, but that's a separate issue from the buses running on time. I've seen buses not come when they're supposed to, regardless of whether the machines are working.
I've seen fares and top-up machines fail exactly when rushing and out of cash, but this doesn't affect the night bus schedule or printed timetables.
I have waited at stops where the printed timetable was wrong or missing, and the fare machine at the station was out of order at 5am — but a working top-up machine does not make the bus come when the sheet says it will.
I don't work nights, so I can't say about the night bus, but a working ticket machine wouldn't make the bus come on time.
I have seen that functioning fares and top-up machines do not directly influence the reliability of the night bus schedule
